Flashback Weekend Chicago Horror ConEnd of 2019 Blog and a 2020 previewThe Hyatt Regency O’Hare Chicago: There is no substitute.2019 is the year we decided to give our Flashback Weekend Family the venue they deserve! We had outgrown the old hotel years ago, and had been receiving feedback about it which we took to heart. Even our celebrities were suggesting we move.
We decided to introduce a new concept to Horror Conventions – one of elegance and luxury. Luckily, the magnificent venue we needed was just across the street and one block north from the old hotel. Our new home, the iconic Hyatt Regency O’Hare Chicago is one of the world’s largest convention hotels, and was selected as one of the “Great 200 Places in Illinois” by the American Institute of Architects.Everything about the Hyatt is monumental.
The Hyatt’s Grand Ballroom is the largest in Chicago’s suburbs, the mammoth grand foyer entrance to the ballroom is sun-lit and itself is the size of TWO ballrooms; no more narrow and dimly lit hallways for us! These huge spaces will allow us to centrally locate the main attractions. No more running from one end of the hotel to the other or up and down stairs for different events. The Hyatt also has several luxurious and enormous lobbies which will provide amazing areas for parties and cosplay!
An elegant revolving bar on the top floor with a breath-taking view will host Flashback Weekend receptions and events. Other upgrades include futuristic glass elevators, an enclosed parking garage, twice the number of hotel rooms including rooms with a balcony for a great view and fun parties, and much more! And the best part about the Hyatt is that no Horror Convention has EVER been held there before. Innovation and originality are vital to us. We will not follow in someone’s footsteps. With your help, we will create a whole new world at the Hyatt for our guests (that’s you!), vendors, and celebrities.
To boldly go where no Horror Convention has gone before indeed! In 2020, Flashback Weekend’s Midway Drive-In celebrates its 70th anniversary.Drive-in theatres are one of the great American pastimes. It is this horror film era that Flashback Weekend is dedicated to preserving.Flashback Weekend is a horror convention with a deeper initiative – our philanthropic efforts are dedicated to the preservation of the American Drive-In and 35mm film preservation.
